Can Gio has long been known for its mangroves, tidal flats and quieter pace of life. HDBank Green Marathon 2026 is slowly turning the district into a new kind of destination: a place where runners can experience a UNESCO-recognized biosphere reserve through a road race. The fifth-season race is being organized by HDBank, Unique Company and the Ho Chi Minh City Athletics Federation under the guidance of the municipal Department of Culture and Sports. The main race is expected to take place in Can Gio around September 2026, with distances of 5 km, 10 km, half marathon 21 km and marathon 42 km. There are also children's events and relay formats. The AIMS-certified route, meaning the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races has validated the course, gives confidence to recreational runners. Running through mangrove forest and coastal terrain offers a special experience but also creates pacing and safety questions. High humidity, sand, roots and changing weather make it different from road racing in central Ho Chi Minh City. Organizers should communicate course specifics and provide proper aid stations. Past editions have planted more than 2,000 trees, connecting the race to an environmental mission. A notable feature is HDBank Green Marathon online, a digital platform that extends training beyond race day. HDBank has spent more than 36 years supporting sports in Vietnam, and now it is integrating its digital banking services with the running event. This shows sports commercialization moving beyond shirt logos into deeper user engagement. The race is not part of elite qualification pathways, but that is not its main weakness. Instead, it builds a community-based sports culture where each runner competes with their own limits.
